Brea, CA — California recently passed the Property Service Workers Protection Act. All commercial janitorial providers are required to register by October 1, 2018 to comply with the law and avoid incurring penalties. The registration is valid for one year and must be renewed annually by the month and day of the original registration’s issuance.
This is designed to protect workers from the harassment and wage theft that is rampant in our industry. In 2016, Senate Bill No. 588 ruled that the company that hires a fraudulent subcontractor is also liable for any fines incurred by their commercial cleaning provider in regards to compliance.
( The first case of a major restaurant chain being fined can be read here )
This liability puts more pressure on the hospitality directors and property managers who have to find a legitimate company that can meet their housekeeping / janitorial needs at the budget set by their own organization.
So, we here at Contract Services Group wanted to help our industry partners with a quick tip:
Don't forget to ask/remind your provider for their Registration License.
Please also note that Contract Services Group will always offer a transparent labor rate calculator to our clients. We always operate in full compliance with all Federal, State, and Regional Minimum Wage Requirements.
